Plusieurs d’entre-vous vont reconnaître immédiatement Johnny Cash, l’homme en noir, (le pécheur et le saint)  dès le début de cette chanson “ gospel “ (basé sur l’évangile).  Il s’agit de sa première chanson “ gospel “ enregistrée  en 1957 sur l’étiquette Sun Records de Sam Phillips le même qui donnait une première chance à Elvis et Jerry Lee.  Il s’agit de la seule et unique chanson de ce genre que Sam permit à Johnny d’enregistrer.

"My friend you're weighed in the balance and found wanting,   Your kingdom is divided, it can't stand,   You are weighed in the balance and found wanting,   Your houses are built upon the sand" “””.

En quelques mots celui qui dirigeait Babylone,  le prince Belshazzar qui menait une vie désordonnée demanda l’aide du prophète Daniel pour interpréter le message écrit sur le mur en lettres de sang par une main et Daniel lui annonça qu’il avait été pesé, qu’il ne faisait pas le poids, et que son royaume serait divisé et livré à ses ennemies.

Johnny Cash aurait été l’auteur de cette chanson inspirée d’un récit biblique. Quand même une belle petite histoire avec laquelle on reconnait immédiatement le style, la voix et le jeu de guitare de ce grand musicien américain qui a touché à tous les genres durant sa brillante carrière de près de cinquante ans.
